PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
If I were still in your shoes
The ones that shuffle between church pews
My resentment toward our savior would overwhelm me
The dynamic between us quite unhealthy
How could I feel his love through my pain
How could he just watch my tears fall like rain
Why would he stand idle while I begged
Withhold divine healing despite my faith
They told me he works in mysterious ways
But I know I’d be tired of the wait
If I still saw through your eyes
The ones that manage to compartmentalize
I would keep the faith, save my soul
Give this broken body healing hope
But I’d always wonder why you’d withhold my healing
You were supposed to love me; talk about hurt feelings
Maybe I’d finally realize a loving god couldn’t really exist
Unless he’d somehow been rendered powerless
Because a good god wouldn’t create sin, suffering and hell
A good god would pick up his children when they fell
A good god would reveal himself
Instead of requiring faith above all else
A good god would concern himself with morality
Not withhold salvation for non belief
A good god would answer the prayers of the faithful
And if one existed I’d sure be grateful
You say I’m bitter at God for taking my legs
But I ditched that deity a decade before my fate
You say I’m punished for my unbelief
But you’re just as paralyzed as me
I no longer live by faith but by sight
I no longer need a god to tell me what is real or what is right
And so I’m spared the pain of loving a god that doesn’t love me enough
To heal my pain and suffering with divine healing from above
